Madhya Pradesh: The Heart of India
Fondly called as the heart of India, Madhya Pradesh Tourism is a perfect blend of forests, temples and forts. The place is soaked in its royal past and colourful culture. Almost one-third of the state is covered with forests, which boasts some of the finest wildlife reserves in the country. The legend has it that Lord Rama of Ayodhya and his wife Sita spent eleven years of their exile in these dense forests. Ujjain here is considered sacred because a few precious drops of heavenly nectar spilt and consecrated its soil. During this time, the gods and demons were battling in the skies to gain ownership of the vessel containing the nectar, brought out of the ocean depths. The royal rule includes that of Emperor Ashoka followed by the Sunga and the Gupta dynasties. Towards the end of the first millennium, the Parmaras ruled the western and central parts, while around the same time, the Chandelas ruled in the north of the state.
The major sightseeing attractions in Madhya Pradesh include the world famous temples of Khajuraho. The celebrated erotic sculptures are just a portion of this architectural highlight in a region favoured with palaces and forts. Heading towards the south, one can visit the cool and misty surroundings of Pachmarhi. It is the highest hill station in the state. The state is packed with sightseeing options such as Bimbetka, Orchcha, Mandu, Bhedaghat and many more.
