AmritsarAmritsar: The Spiritual Centre for Sikhs

Lauded as the spiritual centre for Sikhs in Punjab, Amritsar was previously called as 'Ambarsar' and 'Ramdaspur.' The fourth Sikh Guru Ram Das had founded it in 1577. It was later completed by Guru Arjan Dev in 1601. Harmandir Sahib, also famously known as the Golden Temple is located in Amritsar. Definitely, it is a very peaceful and humbling side of Indian Tourism. A network of railway lines divides Amritsar in to two parts, the old city and the new city. The old city includes the Golden Temple while the new city contains the bustling urban markets.

The splendid blend of culture and tradition can be scrutinised in Amritsar, endowing a magnificent future. In addition to it, the history of this rustic city is also coloured by the episodic event of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919, in which British General Dyer had fired randomly on innocent Indians, assembled for a peaceful gathering in the park. The Durgiana Temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga, is quite similar in its architecture with the Golden Temple. Presumably, it was constructed in the 16th century. The two important forts are Faridkot Fort and Govind Garh Fort. Both of these forts have significant historical essence in the history of Punjab. In a nutshell, Amritsar travel is a refreshing tourist destination to explore.
